A Beginners Guide To Vaping Terms

I’m sure you’ve heard a ton of people saying different words and sayings when it comes to vaping- and honestly, it can get kind of confusing. So let’s break down all the different terms that some people may not know!

Different Terms & Their Meanings
A
- airflow: the amount of air that passes through the tank and coils
- atomizer/ coil: the component that heats the e-liquid
B
- battery: the part that provides power to the heating element to warm the e-liquid and produce vapour
C
- charger: used to recharge the vape device once the battery has been depleted
- closed pod system: a type of device that uses disposable pods containing pre-filled e-liquid. The body of these devices can be recharged and the disposable pods are replaced once empty of e-liquid
- clouds: what vapers call the vapour that is produced while vaping
D
- direct to lung (dtl): a style of vaping where the vapour is drawn directly into the lungs
- disposables: devices that are not refillable and are intended to be used until empty of pre-filled e-liquid
- draw-activated: a vape that is activated by the vaper inhaling through the device
E
- eco mode: is used to help save battery life and preserve e-liquid throughout the use of the vaping device; commonly found on disposable vaping devices
- e-liquid/juice: the liquid that is vaporized when using a vaping device. Some vape devices come pre-filled with e-liquid, while others are refillable
F
- freebase: refers to the original nicotine found in e-liquid. Freebase is the purest form of nicotine and they provide a stronger throat hit compared to nic salt e-liquid
H
- hit/ draw/ rip/ puff: the inhalation of vapour
M
- milligrams (mg): the measurement for the amount of nicotine found in e-liquid
- millilitres (mL): the measurement for the amount of e-liquid found in a pod/ bottle/ disposable
- mouthpiece: the part of your vape device that you place on your lips to inhale
- mouth to lung (mtl): refers to a vaping technique where the vapour is inhaled into your mouth and held there for a short time before being drawn into your lungs

- nic: nicotine
- nicotine free: refers to e-liquid or disposable that doesn’t contain any nicotine
- nic salt: a type of naturally forming nicotine in the tobacco leaf. Natural acids such as citric are used to raise the acidity level of the nicotine salt; this process makes it easier for your body to absorb
O
- ohms: the standard unit of electrical resistance. The resistance is the ohms of the coil, and the coil you select will determine what voltage or wattage your device will need to be set to
- open/refillable system: these devices have tanks or pods that are continuously refilled with e-liquid and the pods/ tanks are not thrown away after one use
P
- pod: a non reusable pre-filled container of e-liquid that snaps/ slides into a device
- puff count: a term that refers to how many puffs or how many times you can inhale on a device before the vape juice and/ or the battery runs out
- pulse mode: when your device is set to pulse mode, your vape will provide a consistent hit throughout the duration of your inhale. Is a higher performance level commonly found on disposables
S
- starter kit: a kit that includes basic vaping equipment designed for those brand new to vaping
T
- tank: the top portion of a box mod that holds e-liquid
- throat hit/ throat kick: the feeling in the back of the throat when vaping strong flavoured devices
- type-c: the type of charger needs to charge most vaping devices

- vapour: is what you exhale after you have taken a puff from your vape device
- vaper: a person who vapes

wattage: a measure of power
