The Troubleshooting Clinic: What To Do If Your Vape Is Spitting
Posted by Kayleigh Kivell on

What Is Spitting?
Vape spitting happens when extra e-liquid floods the coil, the hot e-liquid does not turn into vapour and instead pops out of the mouthpiece.
Why Is My Vape Spitting?
There can be many reasons as to why your vaping device is spitting, let’s explore some of them.
- Too Much E-liquid: the wick inside of the vape holds too much e-liquid
- Low Power: the device is not hot enough to burn the e-liquid fast enough, which often happens when your vape device battery is low
- Hard Pulls: you may be inhaling too hard, which pulls extra liquid into the middle of the device

How To Fix Your Vape If It Is Spitting
Here are some immediate fixes to get your vape to stop spitting:
- Burn Off Excess: press the fire button or 1-2 seconds without inhaling so the extra e-liquid evaporates.
- listen for a possible sizzle to stop before inhaling again
- Clean The Mouthpiece: twist a piece of tissue or a cotton swab into a point and gently insert it down the mouthpiece, wiping away trapped e-liquid
- The Downward Flick: point the mouthpiece away from you toward the floor and give the device a few sharp, quick shakes to force out excess e-liquid

How To Avoid Your Vape Spitting
Here are some tips on how to prevent your vape device from spitting:
- Adjust The Power: raise your wattage slightly in your device is adjustable so the liquid vaporizes instantly instead of boiling
- Replace Worn Coils or Pods: install a new coil or replace your pod if the cotton inside had degraded or stays permanently flooded
- Check Viscosity: switch to a different e-liquid with a higher VG ratio, which is thicker and less prone to pooling
- Softer Pulls: take slower, gentler puffs instead of hard, deep pulls that may flood the coil chamber
